Making Up My Mind

When I was a kid I used to want to be a Pediatric Nurse because I love babies so much.  But as I got closer to graduating High School I began to change my mind.  However, I didn’t really have another career in mind.  I thought since I had always been intrigued by the movie industry that I wanted to try out being a make-up artist and a theater degree would seem fitting.  Well, a family member gave me some advice and suggested not to go that route because that’s what she did and she was not even using her theater degree for her current career.

So I went to college and earned a degree in Business Administration and it has taken me a few different places in my career.  However, I am occasionally bothered by the thought that I didn’t go to college for a specific line of work.  For example, my brother went to college to be an Architect.  Today he is an Architect.  One of my friends wanted to be a teacher.  Today she is a teacher.  Another friend studied to be a doctor and although it took about 12 years, today she is a doctor.  And here I am with my Business Administration degree.  I didn’t study anything specific and I had to take a few classes I didn’t particularly care for.

Anyway, I know my type of degree can be applied to just about anything and it has come in quite handy.  And although I may not have studied a specific trade, I feel the degree I hold is fitting after all.  You see, I am a true entrepreneur at heart and always have been since I was in Junior High School where I started selling things I made by hand.  Over the years I developed my skills and discovered I enjoy designing jewelry. Today I am a jewelry designer.

The Secret to a Happy Marriage

I met my husband December, 1993.  We began dating, got engaged, finished college, then got married October, 1997.  We are coming up on 10 years of marriage this year!  We had a beautiful wedding (thanks to my wonderful parents) that people still talk about today.  We went to Manhanttan, New York on our honeymoon and it was awesome!

After 10 years we have learned a lot about each other.  Sure, we have our disagreements but that’s not a bad thing.  I think it’s healthy to express your opinion.  Not speaking up about your feelings will eat away at your soul.

Now, married couples each have their own friends and being able to maintain those friendships keeps balance in your life.  My husband goes out with his friends and I go out with mine.  I have a couple very good friends from high school and we all still live in the same area.  Well, one of my friends decided to start "Girls Night Out" one day a month.  We go out to dinner and catch up on our lives.  Let’s face it, everyone needs a break from their spouse once in a while.  And that’s ok, it’s healthy.

When you have trust in a relationship, going out for a night on the town without your "better half" is normal.  But don’t forget to go on a date with your spouse on a regular basis.  Dating is what brought you together in the first place.

I am a working mom.

I’m a mom, a working mom. I have 2 handsome boys ages 5 1/2 and 1 1/2. My oldest just started Kindergarten and my youngest is in daycare. They learn so much at daycare. It’s not a home daycare, it’s a daycare that provides education and socialization. It’s been great and my kids love the interaction with other kids their age.

So I began making jewelry in the early 1990’s and then turned it into a business in 2000. I started out with a website that had purple tones, one of my favorite colors, but I was never really satisfied with it. Then I realized I really like pinks (this was always my favorite color growing up) and browns together and I revamped my website and I absolutely love it! I hope you do too. Let me know what you think.

I’m working on a new line of jewelry and it’s just about finished. I hope you like it. Since I have a "day" job I have to wait until the evenings to make my jewelry and after the kids go to sleep. Hopefully my passion for fashion jewelry will become full time one day. I’ll let you know when that happens because then I will be able to design and make even more sparkly things for all of you!

This October will be 10 years that my husband and I have been married! Wow! I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by. But I like where we are in our lives. My husband and I are a great team because he handles the photography and website set-up/design and I obviously design and make the jewerly.

If you have Comcast Cable you will see my jewelry and website showcased 11/1-12/15 through Atlantic Studios Corp. I can’t wait!

I enjoy going to other jewelry websites and reading about the designers. Not all of them have blogs. In fact, there’s only one that I know of. So I thought it would be fun for me to start one myself. It’s actually kind of therapeutic.

I grew up during the 1970’s so disco and 80’s music are my favorite. I’ve always enjoyed listening to Donna Summer, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and David Bowie. However, during college I started listening to Nine Inch Nails and other Industrial music. I also really like Sirius Satellite Radio. My favorite channels are Area 33 on Channel 33 and The Chill on Channel 35. During the day I listen to KBIG, you know, they play 80’s music. By the way, music is my inspiration for design. Well, more to come soon.
